Niger Assembly Denies Indefinite Adjournment, Reaffirms Strong Ties with Executive

The Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji, has dismissed reports circulating on some social media platforms and online TV channels claiming that the House has adjourned indefinitely, calling these reports false and misleading.
During Tuesday’s plenary, the Speaker described these claims as baseless and lacking factual support.
A statement from Rukayyah M. Tanko, Head of Information at NSHA, indicated that the speaker affirmed the Assembly’s continued functionality and its dedication to fulfilling its constitutional roles of lawmaking, oversight, and representation in the best interests of Niger State’s residents.
Rt. Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji also reaffirmed the strong relationship between the Legislative and Executive branches of government in the state.
He clarified that both bodies work together with mutual respect, cooperation, and a shared goal of good governance and development for Niger State.
According to the Speaker, there are no disagreements or rifts between the two branches.
He highlighted that when differences occur, they are resolved through established democratic processes, constructive dialogue, and constitutional procedures—hallmarks of a healthy democracy.
While emphasizing the Assembly’s support for press freedom and free expression, the Speaker urged journalists and media outlets to uphold ethical standards by verifying information through the official channels of the Niger State House of Assembly prior to publication.
He stressed that responsible journalism, fairness, and accuracy are crucial for maintaining public trust, preventing misinformation, and strengthening democratic institutions.
