Federal Government Allocates ₦48 Billion to Enhance Technical and Engineering Education in 12 Nigerian Universities
The Federal Government has approved a total of ₦48 billion, dedicating ₦4 billion to each of 12 selected universities to rehabilitate engineering and technology workshops, upgrade laboratories, and install modern equipment as part of the TETFund Special High-Impact Intervention Project.
During the inauguration of the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation, and Implementation Committee, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, described this initiative as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening practical training, fostering innovation, and enhancing Nigeria’s global competitiveness in higher education.
He emphasized that the funds allocated specifically for engineering and technology upgrades are separate from the regular 2026 TETFund disbursements. The success of the initiative, he stated, will be measured by the functionality of facilities, improvements in practical skills, and the readiness of graduates for the workplace.
Sonny Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, reiterated the Fund’s commitment to infrastructure development in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Beneficiary institutions include the Federal University of Technology in Minna, Akure, Owerri; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University; and other designated universities.
The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to transparency, adherence to procurement protocols, and the achievement of measurable outcomes throughout the implementation of this intervention.
