Kwankwaso Declares January 23 as ‘World Betrayal Day’ Following Governor Yusuf’s Resignation from NNPP
Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has designated January 23 as “World Betrayal Day” in response to the resignation of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the party.
Governor Yusuf announced his resignation on January 23, 2026, amid rumors of his impending switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing supporters at his residence on Miller Road in Kano, Kwankwaso said the idea originated from social media reactions, where commentators criticized the governor’s departure as a betrayal.
He remarked, “One post in particular caught my attention, suggesting we declare January 23 annually as World Betrayal Day.”
Kwankwaso stated, “As the leader and grand patron of this movement, I support this declaration.”
He added that the day would be observed with activities aimed at reflecting on the circumstances of Yusuf’s exit from the party.
