Nigerian Universities Lead in 2026 Global Rankings
The University of Ibadan (UI) and the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have emerged as Nigeria’s top-ranking institutions in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, reaffirming their status as the country’s premier universities.
The 2026 rankings, published by Times Higher Education, evaluated over 1,900 universities across 108 countries based on key performance metrics such as teaching quality, research output, citations, international outlook, and industry income.
According to the report, UI and UNILAG are the only Nigerian universities positioned within the 801–1000 global ranking band, making them the best performers from Nigeria on the international stage.
