NUJ Niger Council Considers Federated Chapel for Online Media Groups
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, has announced plans to explore the creation of a federated Chapel by merging registered online media organizations within the state.
The State Chairman of the NUJ, Dr. Abu Nmodu, shared this information during a courtesy visit from officials of Flash Radio and Television, a private online media outlet, at the IBB Press Centre (Pen House) in Minna.
Dr. Nmodu outlined the requirements for establishing a Chapel, as outlined in Article Three of the NUJ Constitution, and assured that once these criteria are met, the Council would not hesitate to inaugurate a federated Chapel for registered online media professionals.
He also revealed that the Council has already initiated efforts to identify and verify genuine journalists, with the goal of sanitizing the profession and eliminating unqualified operators.
While appreciating the efforts of Flash Radio and Television, the NUJ Chairman warned them to strictly adhere to journalistic ethics.
He expressed approval of the increasing presence of private digital broadcasting outlets in the state, calling it a reflection of global media industry trends.
Dr. Nmodu emphasized that the launch of Flash Radio and Television would bolster the Union’s efforts to educate the public about civic responsibilities, noting that misconceptions about democracy and development often arise from a lack of access to accurate information.
Earlier, the General Manager of Flash Radio and Television, Hadiza Yawa, confirmed that the station is officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
She explained that the station was founded with the goal of promoting socio-cultural values and practices for societal development.
She also requested official recognition of Flash Radio and Television as a Chapel, promising the NUJ leadership that the station is committed to maintaining journalistic ethical standards.
