2026 Farming Season: Niger Foods, Ministry of Agriculture Join Forces to Boost Jobs and Productivity in Niger State

The Chairman of Niger Foods Security Systems and Logistics Company, Mr. Sammy Adigun, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to partnering with the Niger State Ministry of Agriculture to accelerate job creation across the agricultural value chain, in line with the vision of the Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, and the New Niger Agenda.
Mr. Adigun made this statement during a courtesy visit and collaboration with the office of the Commissioner for Agriculture.
During the visit, Mr. Adigun explained that the engagement aimed to deepen collaboration with the Ministry to ensure that agricultural mechanization directly leads to employment and economic opportunities at the community level.
He affirmed Niger Foods’ readiness to deploy modern agricultural solutions that will empower farmers, service providers, and other stakeholders within the sector.
He disclosed that ahead of the 2026 farming season, Niger Foods plans to work closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and Directors of Agriculture at the local government level to ensure tractors are available in every ward across the state’s 25 local government areas.
According to him, this initiative will generate jobs for tractor operators, mechanics, extension workers, input suppliers, and other players in the agricultural ecosystem, while also making farming easier and increasing productivity.
Responding, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Honourable Isah Sidi Rijau, welcomed the partnership, noting that it is intentionally designed to unlock employment opportunities for youths and rural residents through mechanized farming, aggregation, logistics, processing, and related services.
He described agriculture as the strongest vehicle for widespread employment in Niger State, adding that strategic collaborations like this would help transform the sector from subsistence farming to a commercially driven, job-rich industry.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mathew Ahmed, also mentioned that the Ministry is already working with local government chairmen to expand agricultural activities in line with the Farmer Governor’s directive on inclusive growth and employment creation.
He announced that 10,000 hectares of farmland in each local government area has been designated for this purpose, a move expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs. Official communications have been sent to all 25 local governments through their respective Directors of Agriculture to ensure coordinated implementation.
