Niger State Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development to Rehabilitate 10 Area Offices
The Niger State Government has announced plans to rehabilitate ten area offices across the state as part of efforts to improve service delivery and preserve essential government assets.
The Honourable Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development shared this during an inspection visit to the Bida and Agaie Area Offices, where he led a team of senior management staff of the Ministry on an assessment tour.
According to the Commissioner, the Area Offices have existed since the era of the former North Western State and have continued to play vital roles in executing and supervising public works over the years.
He expressed concern that many of the offices are currently in a dilapidated state due to age and years of neglect, emphasizing the urgent need for rehabilitation to restore their functionality and dignity.
The Commissioner also instructed staff of the Area Offices to ensure proper preservation of documents and official records in their custody, noting that many of these documents date back to the post-independence period and hold significant historical and administrative value.
He stressed that government records must be adequately protected against damage or loss, as they serve as critical references for planning, auditing, and institutional memory.
Additionally, the Commissioner urged the Public Building Department of the Ministry to carry out a complete inventory of all structures within the Area Offices as part of preparations for the upcoming rehabilitation project.
Speaking during the visit, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, QS Hassan Baba Estu, reminded staff of the area offices of the importance of strictly following civil service rules and regulations.
He called on all staff to report promptly to duty and leave at the appropriate time according to the approved civil service schedule, emphasizing that discipline and punctuality are essential for effective public service.
In their replies, the Area Engineer overseeing the Bida and Agaie Area Offices, Engineer Bello Mohammed, and QS Maikudi Alhaji Shehu, expressed gratitude to the Commissioner and the Ministry’s management for the visit and concern for the welfare of the Area Offices.
He assured the Commissioner that the staff of the Bida Area Office would meet expectations and promised they would not let the Ministry down as plans for the offices’ rehabilitation move forward
