Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to Swear in 57 New Senior Advocates of Nigeria in Abuja.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is set to officiate the swearing-in ceremony for 57 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria on Monday, September 29, 2025. The event will take place at the Main Courtroom of the Supreme Court in Abuja and marks a significant milestone as part of the formal commencement of the 2025/2026 legal year for the apex court.
In a statement released by Dr. Festus Akande, the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Supreme Court, the ceremony will feature an address from the Chief Justice, who will summarize the achievements and performance of the Supreme Court during the 2024/2025 legal year.
The address will also provide a comprehensive overview of developments within the Nigerian judiciary.
Continuing the long-standing tradition, the Chief Justice will deliver a State of the Judiciary address, focusing on the Supreme Court’s status and the broader context of the Nigerian Judiciary in the past legal year.
In addition to the Chief Justice’s address, notable figures and stakeholders in the justice sector will present during the special court session. Among those expected to speak are the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria, and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Their discussions will center around critical issues affecting justice administration and the necessary reforms to bolster the sector.
The announcement also recalled that the Supreme Court commenced its annual vacation on July 21, 2025, following a notably successful 2024/2025 legal year. All programs related to the new legal year’s commencement are scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. on Monday.
Notably, on July 24, 2025, the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee unveiled the list of 57 lawyers elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, comprising 56 practicing advocates and one academic.
