Bida Old Students Association Addresses Challenges Facing Government College Bida at Strategic Retreat.

By Yahaya Zakka Minna.

In a proactive move to address pressing issues facing Government College Bida in Niger State, the Bida Old Students Association (BOSA) convened a strategic retreat for its National Executive Committee in Minna.

The initiative, led by National President Retired Major General Abdulmalik Halidu Giwa, aimed to tackle challenges such as deteriorating infrastructure, declining academic performance, limited student exposure to technology, and the diminishing career growth of alumni.

During the opening of the retreat, Major General Giwa emphasized BOSA’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the esteemed institution, stating, “We cannot fold our arms and watch these challenges erode the proud legacy of the school.”

He highlighted the importance of harnessing the collective expertise of BOSA’s over 8,000 members worldwide to generate substantial financial support for the association’s initiatives.

Speaking through First National Vice President Alhaji Muhammadu Agwai, Giwa articulated the need for alignment of vision and structured actions to overcome the identified challenges.

The aims of the retreat included fostering a shared vision, enhancing synergy among members, and building capacity within the organization.

Participants were encouraged to engage meaningfully in discussions aimed at refining strategies and recommitting to the goals of BOSA. Alhaji Abubakar Dogo, a member of the Board of Trustees, urged attendees to contribute actively to the creation of actionable plans.

Hajiya Aisha Nuhu Yarwa, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic Education, commended BOSA’s initiative and reiterated the ministry’s dedication to collaborating with relevant stakeholders to enhance the education sector. Represented by Director of Administration Buhari Yakubu, she noted that the retreat provided a crucial platform for dialogue and re-strategizing to strengthen the association.

The retreat also saw the inauguration of several standing committees focused on critical areas such as business and revenue generation, mentorship and career development, the doctrine of the founders’ vision, and the integration of automation and digitalization to advance the objectives of the association.

As BOSA moves forward, the hope is to leverage the collective strength of its members to reinvigorate Government College Bida and ensure a brighter future for its students.
