Chanchaga Local Government Councillors Suspends Chairman Amid Allegations of Misconduct.
The Legislative Council of the Chanchaga local government area in Niger State has officially suspended council chairman, Alhaji Aminu Yakubu Ladan, following serious allegations of misconduct and misappropriation of funds.
The allegations against Ladan, which include lack of accountability and incompetence, were detailed in a letter dated July 28, 2025, and shared with Nigeria Daily Post in Minna.
The letter was signed by eight of the ten council members, indicating strong support for the suspension.
In accordance with the Niger State Local Government Law, specifically Sections 24 and 38 of Cap 77, the Legislative Council stated that the decision was made to ensure proper governance and accountability within the council.
The notice further highlighted that, as per Section 31(2) of the same law, Ladan is to be suspended immediately while a full investigation into the allegations is conducted.
He has been granted a five-day period to prepare and submit a written defense against the claims made against him.
The issues raised in the allegations are serious, including illegal allocation of plots within the market, refusal of directors to attend Legislative Council meetings, failure to produce financial statements, and the unauthorized awarding of contracts, among other concerns.
Interestingly, two council members from Nassarawa B Ward and the Majority Leader of Minna South Ward did not support the suspension, while the majority of councillors stood in favor, awaiting the outcomes of the impending investigations into Ladan’s conduct as council chairman.
