Nigeria Union of Pensioners commends Farmer Governor Umaru Bago for the donation of ₦100 Million to the Union, show of concern to the Pensioners plight.

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) expresses its appreciation to Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, who is affectionately referred to as the “farmer governor,” for his concern regarding the plight of retirees and personally attend the quadrennial Delegates Congress and Award of some governors who have distinguished themselves in the settlement of Pension matters.
In a statement released to journalists and signed by Comrade Abdullah Baba Sani, the state Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, the organization recognized Governor Bago for receiving the award as the “Most Pensioners Friendly Governor” from the Union in Kano.
The statement also commended the Governor for his personal donation of ₦100 million to the Union. It highlighted his acknowledgment of the need for significant improvements in pension administration not only in Niger State but across Nigeria.
The Union believes that this award will motivate him to continue addressing the challenges faced by pensioners.
During the award ceremony, the Governor suggested more efficient ways to manage pension payments to alleviate the difficulties retirees often encounter.
He also encouraged all Nigerian pensioners to embrace agriculture for self-sufficiency and announced plans to establish a demonstration farm for the Nigeria Union of Pensioners in the state.
Comrade Baba Sani further expressed gratitude to the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Abubakar, along with his entourage, the Permanent Secretary, and the Director General of the Niger State Pension Board, Alhaji Nasiru Saidu Namaska for their unwavering support of the Union and their contributions to the success of the award ceremony in Kano.
He also commended the dedication and effort of the Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress for taking the time from their busy schedules to attend the event.
