Former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar has advised Government to address Economic Disparity that fuels discontent, poverty and unemployment in the country.
The former Head of State Stated this during an event put together by the Abdulsalami Abubakar Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development to commemorate International Peace Day in Minna.
Peace is the bedrock of any Nation’s progress, with out peace, development is stifled, opportunities are lost and society stagnates.
General Abdulsalami Abubakar while noting that Nigeria’s diversity is a major advantage,it has also posed significant challenges to national unity and peaceful coexistence.
“Peace can not be taken for granted,it must be nurtured,protected and expanded through dialogue, education and active engagement with all sectors of society”
Speaking further, The Former Head of State acknowledged that Nigeria faces numerous challenges ranging from insurgency, terrorism,ethno religious conflicts, Youth unemployment and economic instability says, these are issues of governance, political tension and inequality that continue to divide us as a people.
General Abdulsalami, emphasized that peace is a collective responsibility and all must rise to the challenge of building a culture of peace in Nigeria.
” The cultivation of a culture of peace requires deliberate action at all levels.we must invest in our youth, empowering them with education and opportunities that steer them away from violence and unrest”
The commemoration of the International Peace Day celebration organized by the Abdulsalami Abubakar Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development Studies featured Six selected secondary schools in Minna participating in debates and presentation of Spoken Words on Peace Building.
