Yakubu Busari
Prof. Ambassador Mary Lar, former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands and Visioner of the Solomon and Mary Lar Foundation, paid a courtesy visit to the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
During the visit, she was warmly received by the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina J. Mohammed. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss issues of global development, humanitarian service, and Nigeria’s contributions to the UN system.
In her remarks, Prof. Mary Lar extolled the outstanding service of Nigerian leaders who have served with distinction on the global stage. Her visit to United Nations headquarters refreshes her memory to the late Major-General Joseph N. Garba, former President of the United Nations General Assembly, describing him as a proud son of Nigeria and a distinguished general from Langtang North whose leadership brought honor to the country. Prof. also noted that, her life fulfillment is certified as her dream to visit United Nations headquarters where the whole Nations meet to discuss peace and nations growth has come through.
She also commended Amina Mohammed, noting with pride that the Deputy Secretary-General is a woman from Nigeria who continues to raise the nation’s flag high in international diplomacy and development.
Prof. Mary Lar was accompanied on the visit by Dr. Chalya Lar.
The visit further highlights the enduring commitment of the *Solomon and Mary Lar Foundation* to peace, development, and global engagement, and reinforces Nigeria’s legacy of service at the United Nations.
