NSSC Chairman Masu Urges Fairness as Niger Super League Draws Hold

The Chairman of the Niger State Sports Commission (NSSC), Hon. Danjuma Abdul Masu, has urged stakeholders to uphold fairness, unity and professionalism as the draws for the 2025/2026 Niger State Super League football competition was conducted.

Hon. Masu made the call while addressing participants at the ceremony held at the conference hall of the Commission, where he also formally declared the exercise open.

He described the draws as a critical step toward ensuring a smooth and well-structured league, noting that collaboration among stakeholders would determine the success of the competition.

The NSSC Chairman emphasized that football remains a unifying force capable of bridging social and cultural divides, but cautioned against the intrusion of personal interests and politics into the administration of the game.

He commended participating clubs for their sacrifices in nurturing young talents, stressing that their efforts remain vital to grassroots football development in the state.

Hon. Masu also charged officials to uphold transparency and integrity, assuring that the Commission would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening football across Niger State.

He also stressed the need for unity among stakeholders, assuring that the Commission would continue to partner with relevant bodies to support the league, while expressing optimism that the competition would be successful, credible and beneficial to football development in Niger State.

Speaking earlier on behalf of the Niger State Football Association (NSFA), an Exexutive board member of the state FA, Comrade Barau Awaisu Kuta, called for unity and collective support to ensure a successful league season.

Comrade Barau Awaisu commended the leadership of the FA, particularly the Chairman, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf, describing him as a visionary and transparent leader who has demonstrated capacity in repositioning football in the state.

He also applauded Hon. Danjuma Abdul Masu for his commitment and contributions to sports development, noting that his leadership at the Commission is already yielding positive results.

The NSFA board member highlighted achievements recorded by the association, including the development of players and the availability of qualified referees officiating at various levels of competition.

He, however, identified challenges such as inadequate funding, payment of referees’ indemnities and other logistical constraints, appealing to the Commission Chairman for financial support to address the issues.

Comrade Barau Awaisu assured that despite the challenges, the FA remains committed to delivering a credible league, urging stakeholders to support one another and protect the integrity of the competition.

The 2025/2026 Niger State Super League is expected to feature 32 clubs from across the state, with fixtures set to commence following the conclusion of the draws.

Participants at the draws, including some elders in the state football family, Mallam Mukhtar Shehu Wonder and Alhaji Mu’azu Hameed Kontagora, as well as the secretary of the state referees council, Mallam Ismaila Mohammed She, all made valuable contributions, hammering on patience, discipline, and spirit of sportsmanship.
