NUJ pledges support for workers’ welfare, seeks stronger synergy with TUC in Niger State
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and promoting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of workers across the state.
The State Chairman of the NUJ, Dr. Abu Nmodu, gave the assurance while receiving the newly elected executives of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Niger State Council, during a courtesy visit at the IBB Pen House in Minna.
Dr. Nmodu noted that although the NUJ is affiliated with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), it plays a dual role as both a trade union and a professional body committed to protecting, preserving, and defending the rights of Nigerian workers.
He emphasized that the NUJ is strategically positioned to amplify the voices of other unions and ensure that their concerns are properly understood by relevant authorities.
According to him, effective trade unionism depends largely on clear and strategic communication of members’ positions to the public and government.
The NUJ Chairman therefore advised the new TUC executives to strengthen collaboration with other unions relevant to their struggle for improved working conditions.
He further assured that the NUJ would continue to uphold its constitutional responsibility of objectively informing and educating Nigerians.
Earlier, the TUC State Chairman, Comrade Dahiru Garba Kuta, explained that the visit was to formally introduce the new executives to the NUJ following their recent inauguration.
He disclosed that the TUC in Niger State has nearly 20 affiliate unions and reaffirmed the cordial relationship between the TUC and the NLC in the state.
Comrade Kuta expressed appreciation to journalists for the publicity given to the activities of the TUC and appealed for continued support and collaboration with the NUJ.
