Egbira Witchcraft Association Presents Demands for Development in Kogi Central

From Our Correspondent.

The Association of Egbira Witchcraft, led by Her Majesty Iya Oyarazi Kudi Atta, has officially submitted a set of demands to the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. The President-General of the Kogi State Witchcraft Union articulated these requests on behalf of all residents of the Kogi Central senatorial district.

Addressing both Governor Ododo and previous administrations, including Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the association emphasized the urgent need for fundamental water infrastructure. They stated, “Access to clean and reliable water remains a luxury in Ebira land and surrounding communities.

Water is a basic human right, not a political favor. We call for immediate action through boreholes, water schemes, and sustainable infrastructure projects.”

The association also demanded the rehabilitation of schools within Kogi Central. It was reported that fewer than 47 primary and secondary schools are operational in the area, with many in a state of disrepair.

“We insist on the complete rehabilitation of all existing schools, provision of necessary furniture, learning materials, and qualified teachers, as education is the cornerstone of development. Neglecting education endangers the future of our children.”

Furthermore, they called for the reconstruction of an ultra-modern motor park in Okene, criticizing the current infrastructure’s inadequacy relative to the area’s population and economic significance. “Revamping the motor garage will enhance trade, safety, and urban dignity.”

While recognizing the importance of digital education, the association emphasized that digital initiatives should not overshadow the fundamental needs of water, functional schools, and basic infrastructure. “Any digital project must address basic human needs first, not replace them.”

They also urged a comprehensive review of the road network, highlighting that road construction alone does not resolve community hardships.

“In the current economic climate, how many residents can afford cars? How many roads connect water, schools, and jobs? Development should prioritize people, not just statistics.”

The association warned that Governor Ododo’s re-election prospects are at risk. They drew parallels to the 2015 Nigerian general elections and historical electoral defeats of incumbent governors under similar circumstances of public dissatisfaction.

“The Nigerian Witches Association has consistently responded effectively—symbolically and politically—when leaders ignore the grievances of the people,” they stated.

A deadline was set for the government to address these demands by the first week of September 2026. “Failure to act will be seen as deliberate neglect of the Ebira people.”

They concluded with a call for responsible governance, asserting, “Development must be visible in homes, schools, water taps, and daily lives—not just in speeches or billboards. The people are watching. History is recording. Ultimately, power rests with the people.”
