IPOB Cancels Monday Sit-at-Home, Warns Against Enforcement in South-East.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced the permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home directive across the South-East, with effect from February 9, 2026.
The group said the directive was issued by its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, urging residents of the region to return to schools, workplaces, markets and other economic activities without fear.
In a statement on Sunday, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, warned that any attempt to enforce the sit-at-home order from Monday would amount to open opposition to Kanu’s directive and the Biafran cause.
“All markets, schools, offices, transport services and economic activities must resume fully and normally from tomorrow. The era of Monday sit-at-home is over,” the statement read.
IPOB cautioned residents against alleged false-flag operations, intimidation or violence by individuals or groups it described as opponents seeking to undermine the directive and cause confusion in the region.
The group urged residents to remain calm, vigilant and law-abiding as normal activities resume across the South-East.
It also stated that state governors do not have the authority to threaten, intimidate or forcibly shut down businesses belonging to traders who choose to act based on personal discretion.
According to IPOB, any decision regarding market renovation or relocation must involve consultations with relevant stakeholders and include the provision of alternative trading locations before such projects commence.
The group further called on parents to ensure that children return to school and appealed to residents to fully resume their daily activities.
IPOB said the decision to cancel the sit-at-home directive reflects its commitment to unity, freedom, dignity and justice in the South-East.
