Over 3 Million Attend Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass’ Maulud Celebration in Katsina
From Our Correspondent.
An estimated three million followers of the Tijaniyya Islamic Sect, both local and international, gathered in Katsina on Saturday to celebrate Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass’s Maulud 2026.
The event, held at Muhammad Dikko Stadium and organized by the “Majma’u Ahbab Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass,” saw nearly all hotel accommodations in Katsina filled to capacity, prompting some residents to offer their homes as hospitality to visitors. Those unable to secure lodging stayed in the stadium despite the cold weather.
By early morning, the stadium was at full capacity, with seats, the pitch, and all available spaces occupied. The adjacent dual-carriage road from the WTC roundabout to Barhin roundabout was also congested.
The celebration provided significant economic opportunities, especially for vendors selling food, beverages, herbal medicines, textiles, and books.
Sheikh Ibrahim Dahiru-Bauchi expressed gratitude to the Katsina State Government for hosting the event, praying for lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in Northern Nigeria and the nation.
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, advised Muslims to remain steadfast in obeying divine commandments, seek Allah’s forgiveness, follow Prophet Muhammad’s example, pursue knowledge, and engage in entrepreneurial activities for self-reliance.
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina commended the organizers and scholars for their prayers, noting that peace is gradually returning to the state and urging continued prayers for the state’s and Nigeria’s advancement.
Sheikh Mahi Ibrahim-Nyass, representing the late Sheikh Ibrahim Nyass, prayed for the repose of Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi’s soul and called for unity, love, and firm adherence to the sect among Muslims worldwide.
A special prayer was held for Katsina, Nigeria, and its leaders.
