The Niger State House of Assembly has approved the ₦ 1,073,991,335,895.00—00 Appropriation Bill for the 2026 fiscal year.  Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago submitted the bill on December 12, 2025. Dubbed the “Budget of Consolidation,” it received approval after a thorough review and endorsement by the House Standing Committee on Planning and Appropriation, chaired by Hon. Zubairu Ismaila (Rafi Constituency), during a plenary session.

The approved budget allocates ₦ 290,296,631,404.00. 00 to Capital Expenditure and ₦ 783, 694, 704, 783,694,704,491.00. 00 to Recurrent Expenditure.

Hon. Zubairu Ismaila emphasized that the House examined the policy objectives, strategies, and guiding principles underpinning the 2026 Budget.

He also stated that the Appropriation Bill was read a second time and referred to the House Committee on Planning and Appropriation for detailed legislative review, in accordance with Order 8, Rule 6(a) of the House’s Standing Orders, 2019, with other Standing Committees functioning as sub- committees.

The committees coordinated to develop a detailed timetable to oversee the budget review process, ensuring a timely and effective review.

On December 20, 2025, the Planning and Appropriation Committee examined reports from various Standing Committees. It engaged stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Niger State Planning Commission, Niger State Internal Revenue Service, Niger State Public Procurement Board, and Fiscal Responsibility Bureau, to resolve relevant issues.

Subsequently, the House reviewed the Appropriation Bill clause by clause in the Committee of Supply, chaired by the House Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barr. (Dr) Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin- Daji.

The committee’s report was adopted unanimously, leading to the bill being enacted into law for the 2026 fiscal year.

The Speaker Sarkin Daji, then commended the diligent efforts of the House Committee on Planning and Appropriation and other committees, encouraging Nigerlites to support government policies and contribute constructive suggestions for the state’s development.
