Tragic Killing of Elderly Cleric at Kano Mosque Sparks Community Response.

A devastating incident occurred on Monday morning at Yusuf Garko Mosque in the Maraba Quarters of Kano, resulting in the murder of an elderly Islamic cleric, Ladan Zubairu, during the call to prayer.
According to reports, the cleric had gone out at dawn to perform the morning adhan. After completing the first call, he was inside the mosque reciting supplications when an armed man entered abruptly and attacked him, slitting his throat instantly.
The victim’s son, Isa Kasim, stated that residents quickly pursued the assailant. An angry mob eventually caught and killed the suspect. During the ensuing chaos, the attacker’s residence was set ablaze, causing widespread panic until security forces intervened.
Kasim also disclosed that after the suspect’s death, authorities found the victim’s severed throat inside a nylon bag in the attacker’s pocket, deepening community shock.
The Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed that police officers were promptly dispatched to restore order and prevent further violence. He assured that calm has since been restored in Maraba Quarters.
Both the victim and the suspect’s bodies were recovered and taken to the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital for autopsy. The Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has ordered a comprehensive investigation, promising that those responsible will face legal action.
Authorities continue to urge residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information as investigations proceed.
