Niger State Governor Umaru Bago Announces Multi-Billion Naira Contract for Minna General Hospital Reconstruction

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has announced that his administration has awarded a contract worth several billion naira for the reconstruction of Minna General Hospital.
Governor Bago made this disclosure during a courtesy visit from the executive members of the Association of Proprietors of Private Tertiary Health Institutions in Niger (APPTIN) at the Government House in Minna.
Acknowledging the crucial role of the private sector, particularly in healthcare, he highlighted the significant contributions of private institutions in improving education and producing skilled graduates, which has spurred a societal revolution.
He challenged private tertiary health institutions in the state to support government efforts by providing essential medical personnel to operate the fully remodeled and equipped Minna General Hospital and IBB Specialist Hospital.
The governor emphasized the need to expand healthcare infrastructure across the state to meet the United Nations’ healthcare provision benchmarks, advocating for increased collaboration with private health entities.
Additionally, he announced that a bill has been forwarded to the State Assembly to repeal the act establishing IBB University, aiming to make the university self-sustaining and more affordable for students.
Amb. Mujahid Adamu Dikko, Chairman of APPTIN, commended Governor Bago for his commitment to healthcare development and expressed the association’s readiness to complement government efforts, especially in manpower development.
He also extended condolences to the governor and the people of Niger State over the recent abduction of schoolchildren at St. Mary’s School, Papiri in Agwara Local Government.
In recognition of his support for private tertiary health institutions, the association presented Governor Bago with an award of excellence.
