Niger State Governor Advocates for Strategic Military Measures to Tackle Insecurity.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has called for the establishment of Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) along key entry points in the state, aiming to curb the infiltration of miscreants fromneighboringr states.
During a courtesy visit to Minna by the Theatre Commander of the Joint Taskforce North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Warrah Idris, Governor Bago emphasized the importance of situating FOBs in Mailaka and Kurege within Mariga Local Government Area. He also proposed the recruitment of 25,000 Nigerlites to bolster security efforts.
“We are willing as a state to help recruit 25,000 youths to go after these people,” Bago stated.
The governor expressed concern over neglected assets in Kainji Lake National Park and Borgu Local Government, attributing their vulnerability to banditry, and expressed optimism that Operation Fansan Yamma would swiftly restore peace.
He commended the military and security agencies for their ongoing efforts and urged additional resources, including equipment and air support, aligned with the state’s geography.
Bago also highlighted non-kinetic approaches being implemented to foster peace, emphasizing the need for cooperation to succeed.
In his remark, Maj. Gen. Warrah Idris outlined his sector responsibilities, including parts of Niger State, and shared his mission to familiarize himself with operational terrain, assess security conditions, and boost troop morale.
He reaffirmed the mandate from Nigeria’s top military leadership to eradicate banditry and terrorism.
Assessments have been completed, with plans to release detailed maps to facilitate targeted operations. The ongoing efforts in Kainji Lake National Park and Borgu aim to dismantle bandit enclaves, contributing to the broader goal of security across Nigeria’s North-West and North-Central regions.
Operation Fansan Yamma is a joint military initiative established by the federal government to address insecurity challenges in these strategic zones.
