NSERC Holds Key Stakeholders Meeting to Address Electricity Supply Challenges in the Mokwa Community.

The Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NSERC) recently organized an important meeting with key stakeholders to address the ongoing electricity supply issues affecting residents of the Mokwa Community.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Mokwa Community, New Bussa Electricity Distribution Company Limited, Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), and Kiara Rice Mill.

Discussions centered on critical issues such as service terms, customer commitments, and strategies to enhance power supply reliability. The participants also addressed the need for billing transparency and improvements in overall service quality in the affected areas.

Engr. Mohammed Sharu, FNSE, Chairman of NSERC, opened the meeting by reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to fair treatment of electricity consumers and the enforcement of service standards across distribution companies.

He emphasized NSERC’s role in mediating and ensuring that both service providers and consumers meet their obligations.

Representatives from New Bussa Electricity Distribution Company Limited and IBEDC highlighted significant operational challenges, including network limitations and inadequate infrastructure, which have contributed to inconsistent power supply.

Both companies expressed their dedication to improving customer engagement, upgrading faulty infrastructure, and refining metering programs to ensure that billing accurately reflects actual usage.

Dr. Muhammad Nma, representing the Mokwa Community, expressed gratitude for NSERC’s proactive involvement, noting the detrimental effects of unreliable electricity on local businesses, educational institutions, and healthcare services.

He urged the distribution companies to fulfill their commitments and implement necessary improvements promptly.

At the conclusion of the meeting, all stakeholders agreed to establish a Monitoring Committee, consisting of representatives from NSERC, the electricity distribution companies, and the Mokwa Community. This committee will oversee the implementation of the agreed-upon actions and provide monthly updates on service delivery and power reliability.

This meeting marks a significant step forward in NSERC’s ongoing efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and collaboration among electricity providers and the communities they serve, ensuring equitable and reliable access to electricity for all.
