NSCDC Intercepts Truck with Telecom Mast and Seven Illegal Miners in Niger.
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State command, has intercepted a truck loaded with telecommunication masts worth millions of naira, along with a Sharon vehicle transporting mining products.
The State Commandant, Suberu Siyaka Aniviye, made this announcement while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Minna.
He stated that the NSCDC anti-vandal team was deployed to the Tafa-Suleja axis following intelligence reports. They apprehended Mustapha Aliyu and Abubakar Safyanu, who have been charged to court for prosecution.
In a related operation, the command arrested a group of seven male suspects involved in illegal mining activities at Kataeregi along Bida Road. They were found with a Sharon vehicle carrying mining products.
One of the arrested miners, Mahmoud Idris, from Zuzungi in Katcha Local Government Area, admitted in an interview that he had not yet obtained a license for his operations. He confessed to hiring laborers and selling Zico minerals to dealers before his arrest.
The commandant pledged to make Niger State an uncomfortable environment for vandals, illegal miners, and other criminals.
He assured the public of the NSCDC’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies to ensure a crime-free society.
He also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the Commandant General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, and Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, towards the command’s efforts.
