Nigerian Airline Passenger Charged to Court After Assaulting Crew, Faces Travel Ban.
Comfort Emmanson, a passenger of IbomAir, has been charged in court and is currently held at Kirikiri correctional facility following an incident of alleged assault on flight crew and security officials during a flight from Uyo to Lagos.
Tunde Moshood, the special adviser on media and communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confirmed the news on X, urging the flying public to exercise caution in light of the increasing incidents of unruly behavior among passengers in Nigerian airports.
“The more reason the flying public should be more careful; the unruly passenger on the Uyo-Lagos bound IbomAir, Miss Comfort Emmanson, has been charged to court and she’s now cooling off in Kirikiri,” Moshood stated.
Social media videos depict Emmanson aggressively confronting flight attendants and airport security personnel. The altercation reportedly began before take-off when she refused to turn off her mobile phone, a requirement under aviation safety regulations. A fellow passenger intervened, which prompted a heated verbal response from Emmanson.
Upon landing in Lagos, she allegedly physically assaulted the purser who had previously instructed her to comply with the safety protocol. IbomAir has characterized her actions as a significant threat to the safety of crew, passengers, and the aircraft.
In response to the incident, the airline has imposed a travel ban on Emmanson, stating that she will no longer be permitted to fly on any of its aircraft
