Major Hamza Al-Mustapha Announces Presidential Bid for 2027 under SDP.
Major Hamza Al-Mustapha (retd), the former Chief Security Officer to the late General Sani Abacha, has officially declared his candidacy for the 2027 presidential election, choosing to run on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
During a strategic engagement with party leaders and supporters in Minna, the capital of Niger State, Al-Mustapha conveyed his deep concerns regarding the current socio-political climate in Nigeria.
He underscored his commitment to lead the nation with integrity and a fresh vision for progress. “I am deeply pained by the current state of the nation. However, with the right direction and commitment, Nigeria can rise again. Though the road ahead may be challenging, together we can rebuild the Nigeria we all deserve,” he emphasized.
Al-Mustapha framed the meeting as part of a larger nationwide consultation effort aimed at rallying support ahead of the upcoming elections. In a statement from Jubril Umar Sanda, the Director of News Media and ICT for the campaign, it was affirmed that Al-Mustapha is “fully prepared for the journey ahead, ready to serve with integrity, courage, and a clear plan for progress.”
While in Niger State, Al-Mustapha also took time to visit Mokwa, where he expressed sympathy for victims of a recent flood disaster that has displaced over 200 residents and caused significant property damage.
He called for immediate intervention and long-term strategies to mitigate future disasters.
He emphasized the importance of competent leadership, unity, and sustainable development as critical factors in addressing Nigeria’s ongoing challenges. In response to Al-Mustapha’s announcement,
SDP State Chairman Alhaji Buhari Yakubu Yarima expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, stating, “We are optimistic that with credible candidates and a clear vision, the SDP will emerge as a formidable force in the 2027 elections.”
