NASS to Introduce Bill for President-Elect to be Sworn In at the National Assembly.

The National Assembly has announced plans to enact a law that will require future presidents-elect to be sworn in within the National Assembly’s arcade.
Additionally, the parliament revealed its intention to reintroduce legislation mandating that the president delivers the State of the Nation Address in the National Assembly on June 12 each year.
Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate, made this announcement during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, coinciding with the commemoration of the June 12 anniversary.
As part of the celebration of National Democracy Day, President Bola Tinubu has been invited to address a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives on Thursday at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
Democracy Day is celebrated in Nigeria every June 12 in honor of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the 1993 presidential election, which is widely regarded as the freest, fairest, and most credible election in Nigeria’s history.
In response to questions about the upcoming initiatives, Bamidele stated: “We aim to institutionalize the State of the Nation Address, and we plan to introduce a bill to ensure this occurs regularly. Citizens should look forward to it.
“President Tinubu is collaborating with the National Assembly on this matter. We will soon be initiating a bill to formalize the State of the Nation Address. June 12 is an ideal occasion for the president to address the nation through the National Assembly due to its historical significance.
“There is no better date than June 12 for the president’s address because of its importance. This will be a joint sitting of the National Assembly, and we encourage Nigerians to anticipate this legislative initiative.
“We also hope to transform our political framework so that, by the grace of God, the next President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will be sworn in at the arcade of the National Assembly,” the Senate Leader assured.
