Governor Bago Unveils New Bida 20-Year Short-term development Plan.
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has officially launched the New Bida 20-Year Development Plan aimed at modernizing Bida town.
The unveiling took place during a town hall meeting and stakeholder engagement organized by the Ministry of Lands and Survey in collaboration with the New Niger Development Project, held in Bida.
Governor Bago stated that the 20-Year New Bida Development Plan is designed to promote rapid development and enhance socio-economic activities in the area.
He discussed the planned construction of a 44 km dual carriageway ring road, which aims to divert traffic. He also mentioned that a new city will be established in the vicinity, equipped with social amenities and a 100-megawatt solar farm for the local population.
The Governor encouraged residents to demonstrate understanding and support for the project, emphasizing that the State Government is not seizing anyone’s land. He assured that any property owners affected by the project will receive fair compensation.
Additionally, he advised community members to be vigilant against land grabbers.
In his remarks, the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, urged the public to collaborate with the State Government in its efforts to develop Bida town, which he believes will secure a prosperous future for many generations to come.
Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Barrister Maurice Magaji, remarked that the event marks a pivotal moment and a shared commitment to transform Bida into an economically vibrant city. He added that the plan lays the groundwork for sustainable growth and environmental resilience, among other goals.
Many stakeholders present at the event praised Governor Bago for his developmental initiatives and called for community support to help him realize his vision.
The event also featured enumerations and valuations for compensation conducted by Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, a presentation by Architect Ramatu Teni Suleiman on optimizing land use and infrastructural development, and an overview of the New Bida by Professor Mohammed Bala Banki, along with various suggestions and recommendations.
