Nigerian Policemen Stoned and Beaten by Angry Mob

The Nigeria Police Force has expressed outrage following a vicious and unprovoked mob attack on its elite operatives early Monday morning in the Okhuimwun Community of Ovia North-East Local Government Area (LGA) in Edo State.
This information was released in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, on Wednesday.
According to police authorities, the victims—members of the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT)—were ambushed while traveling from Lagos through Edo State.
The officers encountered a hostile crowd that had barricaded the road near the University of Benin (UNIBEN) axis. What followed was a shocking act of violence as the mob hurled stones, sticks, and other dangerous weapons, resulting in serious injuries to two officers.
Despite facing life-threatening circumstances, the statement noted that the officers exhibited extraordinary restraint, choosing not to return fire or escalate the situation.
They are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
In response to the attack, the Police emphasized that such lawless aggression against security personnel will no longer be tolerated. The Force has launched a full-scale investigation and is committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice.
“This is a dangerous assault on law enforcement. We will not rest until those responsible are held accountable,” warned the Nigeria Police Force.
