Zamfara State Government Refutes Claims of Christian Convert Facing Trial.
The Zamfara State Government has officially denied rumors regarding a Christian convert, Zainab, purportedly set to stand trial in a Sharia Court for her change of religion.
The government’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, emphasized that these claims are entirely false and originate from social media platforms aimed at generating traffic through misleading information.
In a statement, Idris confirmed that extensive verification has revealed no such case is pending before any Shari’ah Court in Zamfara State. He described the reports as malicious fabrications that attempt to sow discord in a peaceful community.
“The attention of the Zamfara State Government has been drawn to deceptive news circulating about a 22-year-old, Miss Zainab Muhamadu, allegedly facing the death penalty for converting to Christianity.
We categorically state that this is the work of those eager to create tension where none exists,” the statement read.
Idris further noted that the rumors were initiated by an online platform known for disseminating unverified stories and falsehoods, aiming to disrupt public peace.
He detailed that the state has engaged with various authorities, including the Grand Khadi of the Zamfara Sharia Court of Appeal, who confirmed that no such case has ever been recorded.
The government highlighted the urgency of addressing the origins and motivations behind such misleading narratives, asserting the need for accountability in media reporting.
In an ironic twist, the spokesperson clarified that the image associated with the false news story belongs to Aalia, a resident of Texas, USA, thus further underscoring the lack of credibility in the reports.
The Zamfara State Government reinforces its commitment to maintaining peace and urges security agencies to investigate the source of this harmful story and take appropriate action against those responsible for inciting religious tensions.
“We all share a responsibility to uphold peace within our communities and reject the spread of misinformation,” concluded Idris.
