FEC Approves Life Insurance for Tinubu, Shettima, Ministers, and Civil Servants.

From Our Correspondent

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a group life insurance scheme for the President, his Vice, Kashim Shettima, Ministers, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu on Monday.

The council also approved 17 underwriting firms to provide this group insurance.

Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, shared this information while briefing State House correspondents on the FEC’s outcomes. She emphasized the significance the President places on the welfare of workers, particularly federal civil servants.

She stated, “I am pleased to present the FEC’s approval regarding the Group Life Assurance Scheme. This scheme highlights the importance that President Bola Tinubu’s administration places on the welfare of staff, especially federal public servants.

“The Group Life Insurance Scheme is a program where the federal government takes out a life policy on each public servant. In the unfortunate event of a public servant’s death, their next of kin will receive benefits to help their family navigate the loss.

“This year, the group life assurance scheme covers key government officials, including the President, the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Honorable Ministers, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Permanent Secretaries, and staff of federal ministries and treasury-funded agencies, as well as extra-ministerial departments and agencies.

“The scheme also extends to major military agencies such as the Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

“The Group Life Insurance Scheme is an annual program. Today’s approval is for the 2025/2026 policy year, which will commence once the premium is paid to the underwriters, in accordance with the ‘no premium, no cover’ policy.

“I would like to summarize the approval granted today. We appointed 17 insurance underwriters for the group life insurance cover for the year 2025/2026, as previously mentioned.

“The premium is paid to the insurance companies for a duration of 12 months, meaning this policy will expire next year. Although this policy has been in place throughout this administration and previous ones, not many people seem to be aware of it. Therefore, my office has planned a sensitization campaign that will take place soon.

“I am glad to have the opportunity to discuss this policy today and encourage you to give it wide coverage, as it affects every public servant, including many of you present here.

“In closing, I would like to express my gratitude and emphasize that this administration prioritizes the welfare of public servants, ensuring that no deceased public officer’s family is left without support.”
