Niger State House of Assembly Mandates Committee to Investigate Uncompleted General Hospital Minna Building Project

From Our Correspondent

The Niger State House of Assembly has tasked the House Standing Committee on Works and Infrastructure with conducting a formal investigation into the longstanding uncompleted building project at the General Hospital Minna.

Hon. Pharm. Nasir Umar, the Member representing Paikoro Constituency, sponsored the investigation motion.

He informed his colleagues that the construction project, initiated by the previous administration under former Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, was intended to alleviate the strain on the hospital’s existing facilities.

However, the project remains unfinished despite relocating some departments to temporary sites, worsening the hospital’s infrastructure challenges.

Due to the incomplete project, patient referrals to private clinics, which often charge exorbitant fees for healthcare, have increased.

Additionally, medical doctors at the hospital have begun referring patients to their privately owned hospitals.

Hon. Pharm. Nasir emphasized that the hospital will continue to deteriorate unless the building project is completed and equipped with modern facilities.

The House unanimously adopted the motion, and Speaker Rt. Hon. Barr. Dr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji who presided over the plenary. directed the Committee on Works and Infrastructure to thoroughly investigate the project’s current status and provide recommendations for its completion.

The Speaker also instructed the committee to invite the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure representatives to the site.
