Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Responds to Attack on Her Residence by Gunmen

From Our Correspondent

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central, has issued a statement regarding a recent attack on her family home by unknown gunmen.

The Senator explained that the assailants likely assumed she was at home because her younger brother had taken contractors to inspect project locations just two days prior.

She shared her account of the incident, stating, “Two days ago, my younger brother took some contractors to my hometown in Ihima to check locations for upcoming projects I secured for my senatorial district.

The unknown gunmen thought I was in town and attacked my family home that night. Thankfully, the civil defense team and community members acted quickly and drove them away.”

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan confirmed that no one was injured during the attack and noted that a report was filed with the local police.

A statement released by her media office on Thursday condemned the attack on her family residence in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State, which occurred on Tuesday, April 15.

Further details revealed that the armed men, mistakenly believing the Senator was present, vandalized windows in her grandfather’s house. Fortunately, security operatives responded swiftly to repel the attackers.

The statement suggested that this assault was a calculated move in retaliation for Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s outspoken criticism of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she has accused of sexual harassment.

Her media office called on the Inspector General of Police to promptly reinstate her security details and urged the public to remain calm while advocating for justice on behalf of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The statement concluded, “Her commitment to speaking the truth and representing her constituents should never be met with violence and intimidation.”
