Niger State House of Assembly Calls for Urgent Measures to Address Water Shortage in Bosso Constituency.

From Our Correspondent

The Niger State House of Assembly has taken a significant step to address the chronic water shortages in Bosso Constituency and the surrounding areas by urging the Executive Arm of Government to implement temporary measures to alleviate the hardships faced by residents.

This call followed a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Hon. Arc. Abubakar Suleiman Gomna, the Member representing Bosso Constituency, during today’s plenary session of the House.

In presenting his motion, Hon. Arc. Gomna expressed serious concern about the persistent and worsening water shortages affecting communities within Bosso Constituency.

He highlighted that access to clean water is not only a fundamental human need but also vital for maintaining public health, hygiene, and community well-being.

The ongoing dry season has further depleted available water sources, forcing residents to rely on unsafe and costly alternatives, which increases the risk of disease outbreaks.

Gomna warned that without urgent and practical temporary measures, the water crisis could escalate into a severe humanitarian emergency in Bosso Constituency.

The House has called on the Executive Arm of the Niger State Government to immediately drill solar-powered and commercially viable boreholes in each of the three units of all the wards in Bosso Constituency as a necessary and temporary intervention to alleviate the water shortage.

Additionally, the Executive Arm is urged to promptly provide and deploy water tankers to distribute clean and safe water freely to all affected communities in Bosso local government area,Minna, and the surrounding areas until the borehole projects are completed.

The persistent water shortage in Bosso Constituency has reached critical levels, making immediate action essential.

“The House is committed to ensuring that the residents of Bosso Constituency have access to clean and safe water,” stated Hon. Arc. Abubakar Suleiman Gomna.

In a related development, the House also discussed another motion of urgent public importance regarding the installation of visible road signs and the provision of road management logistics in Minna Metropolis and Bosso Local Government to reduce avoidable accidents.

This motion was also sponsored by Hon. Arc. Suleiman Abubakar Gomna, Member representing Bosso Constituency.

He informed his colleagues that the lack of visible warning signs, speed limit indicators, detour markers, and barriers at construction zones has endangered the lives of commuters, pedestrians, and workers, resulting in fatalities, injuries, and property damage.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barr. Dr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, referred the motion to the House Standing Committee on Works and Infrastructure to work with the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and the contractors responsible for road projects in Minna and Bosso Local Government Area.

“The persistent water shortage in Bosso Constituency has reached a critical level, and it is imperative that we take immediate action to address this crisis.

The House is committed to ensuring that the residents of Bosso Constituency have access to clean and safe water,” reiterated Hon. Arc. Suleiman Gomna.
