EFCC seeks collaboration with NUJ to combat economic and financial crimes

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reached out to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to foster collaboration in combating economic and financial crimes across Nigeria.
During a courtesy visit to the Niger State Council of the NUJ in Minna, Acting Zonal Director Bawa Usman Kaltungo highlighted the importance of working together with journalists in tackling illegal mining, cybercrime, and other financial offenses that threaten the country’s economy.
Kaltungo emphasized that combating these issues cannot rest solely on the EFCC. He called for a joint effort to educate the public on the commission’s initiatives and dispel misconceptions about its operations.
Citing recent arrests related to illegal mining, he pointed out the dangers of the growing “get-rich-quick” mentality among Nigerian youth.
The Chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Abu Nmodu, acknowledged the pressing issue of cybercrime in the state and expressed the union’s commitment to responsible journalism in the fight against these crimes.
He advocated for collaborative training initiatives to equip journalists with the necessary skills to report effectively on EFCC activities, aligning with global best practices.
Together, they aim to create a comprehensive approach to reducing economic crimes and promoting ethical conduct in society.
