Niger Gov. Umaru Bago receives Torch of Unity Ahead the 22nd National Sport Festival in Ogun State.

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, also known as the Farmer Governor, has received the National Unity Torch for the upcoming National Sports Festival, which is scheduled to take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He was represented at the Government House in Minna by his Deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba.
Governor Bago emphasized the important role that sports play in nation-building. He described sports as a crucial tool for unity and development, while also assuring that the Niger State contingent is prepared to fully participate in the festival.
He promised that the state government would provide all necessary support to ensure Team Niger’s success at the games.
The leader of the team, Ikana Mbora, who is also a member of the National Sports Commission staff, explained that the tradition of carrying the torch around all 36 states symbolizes national unity.
She added that the torch also serves as an invitation for states to participate in the National Sports Festival. Measures have been taken to ensure the event’s success.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Alh. Garba Nuhu Ngaski, stated that preparations are well underway to secure a top position for Team Niger State in all their events.
He noted that Team Niger had already won in two team sports during the zonal elimination stage and will compete in approximately 16 individual sports, with shooting being a new addition.
The 22nd National Sports Festival is set to take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from May 16 to May 30, 2025.
