WARD-C advocates for women’s inclusion in governance, social justice and equity .

By Our Correspondent.

Women’s Advocacy for Research and Documentation Center (WARD-C) has emphasized the importance of women’s inclusion, social justice, and equity in governance.

Mrs Hassana Joan Kpetu, Team Lead of WARD-C, the organisations primary objective is to promote gender equity and create opportunities for women to occupy strategic positions in government.

Mrs Kpetu made this known during a courtesy visit to Mohammed Sani Idris, the legislature representing Tafa constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Education.

The visit was part of the commemoration of International Women’s Day, which aims to showcase women’s achievements in various fields.

WARD-C also introduced Professor Juliana Hussaina Dauda, the first female professor of criminology in Niger State, who hailed from Tafa Local Government Area.

Mrs. Kpetu described Professor Dauda as a simple, gentle, and capable individual who can handle any responsibility assigned to her.

Hauwa Dickson Ijah, Permanent Secretary of Economic Affairs, praised Professor Dauda’s achievement, stating that it was a historic milestone for Niger State to have a female professor of criminology.

Ijah urged the legislature to continue supporting women to enable them to reach greater heights.

Professor Dauda appreciated WARD-C for connecting her with the legislature, which would help her promote educational development in Tafa.

She also appealed to the legislature to establish a center for training children in information communication technology, as they lacked skills in this area.

Mohammed Sani Idris, the legislature, expressed his commitment to supporting women, stating that they are strong pillars who can endure challenges.

He disclosed that over 100 children in Tafa Local Government Area had been trained in digital skills marketing and promised to continue such initiatives.

WARD-C also visited Faruq Umar Isah, Clerk of the State Assembly, to solicit his support and cooperation in the fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Isah assured WARD-C of his support to help achieve its objectives of reducing GBV to the barest minimum.
