Niger Lawmaker Urges Youth to Reject Thuggery and Stereotyping.
Hon. Abdullahi Idris Garba, Mai-Solar, the representative for Kontagora, Mariga, and Wushishi in the House of Representatives, has called on youths to resist being exploited as tools of political thuggery.
His appeal follows a viral video in which a small group of youths expressed their intention not to vote for him in future elections.
Speaking to journalists in Kontagora, Mai-Solar argued that a minority of youths have allowed themselves to be manipulated by political opponents.
He dismissed claims that he had been driven from his polling unit during the recent local government elections, insisting that such narratives are baseless.
Garba emphasized the need for youths to channel their potential into positive and productive pursuits instead of engaging in violent or disruptive activities.
He urged women and youths in his constituency to take advantage of various empowerment programs that support financial independence and community development.
In his comments, Mai-Solar stated, “While there are hundreds of youths in the area and 90% of them are satisfied with my representation, it is unfortunate that this small group, not even reaching a handful, has chosen to be pawns in the political games of our adversaries. This attempt to undermine my efforts is regrettable.”
His message reflects a broader sentiment encouraging the youth to seek constructive pathways for their futures rather than participating in actions that could harm the democratic process.
