Governor Umaru Bago Sets Three-Month Deadline for Local Government Road Project Contractors.

By Yahaya Zakka Minna

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has issued a three-month ultimatum to contractors engaged in local government road projects, mandating that they complete their work by June 2025.

This announcement was made during a recent interactive session with the contractors held at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Minna.

During the meeting, Governor Bago emphasized that contracts would be revoked for those firms failing to adhere to project specifications.

He urged contractors who are lagging behind in their work to accelerate their efforts to ensure timely completion.

The Governor commended those contractors who have successfully completed their projects, acknowledging their exemplary performance and commitment to the state’s development goals.

He underscored the state’s unwavering dedication to progress, stating that it will not compromise on developmental initiatives.

Governor Bago also revealed that he had halted the release of Certificates of Valuation for certain contractors due to dissatisfaction with their work quality. Conversely, contractors demonstrating excellent performance would receive immediate payments.

To facilitate project execution, the Governor directed the Commissioner for Finance, Lawal Maikano, to expedite the liquidation of funds tied up in the Advanced Payment Guarantee (APG), thus providing contractors with the necessary resources.

He warned all contractors to take their responsibilities seriously and complete their assigned projects within the stipulated timeframe.

Additionally, Governor Bago encouraged contractors facing payment or security issues to reach out to him directly for swift resolution.

He expressed his administration’s intent to initiate the second phase of the urban renewal project in the near future.

Finally, the Governor advised the Ministry of Works and the New Niger Development Project to engage with communities to gather first-hand insights on ongoing projects throughout the state.

The session proved to be interactive, with contractors sharing their challenges while also expressing their commitment to fulfilling project timelines.
