Senate President Akpabio Urges Forgiveness for Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Conduct.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has called upon Senator Steve Karimi, Chairman of Senate Services, to show leniency towards his colleague from Kogi State, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in light of an incident that occurred during a recent session of the Senate.
During the session, Akpoti-Uduaghan protested the reallocation of her seating arrangements by forcibly removing her name tag from the new seat assigned to her and placing it back on her previous one.
This action escalated into a verbal confrontation, wherein she accused Senator Karimi of orchestrating the seat change.
In response, Senator Karimi raised a matter of privilege, formally addressing the Senate regarding Akpoti-Uduaghan’s behavior and calling for a referral to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges for further investigation.
He expressed his discontent, stating, “Akpoti-Uduaghan caused an uproar in the chamber by shouting my name all over the place.”
He noted the disturbance caused by the seating change and emphasized that the President of the Senate possesses the authority to alter seating arrangements at any time without prior notice.
Karimi recounted how fellow senators had previously supported Akpoti-Uduaghan in securing a chairmanship position upon her arrival in the Senate and expressed confusion over why such turmoil was provoked over a seating arrangement.
He concluded, “I want her to come out and apologize to us.”
In light of the situation, President Akpabio intervened, urging Senator Karimi to reconsider his stance on pursuing a formal reprimand for Akpoti-Uduaghan.
He highlighted the importance of addressing the matter with understanding and noted that it would be managed appropriately by the relevant committees at a future time.
