New Executive Council Elected for the National Association of Polytechnic Students Amid Factional Dispute

The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has newly elected its executive officers, with Comrade Festus Oyewumi from the College of Agriculture Technology, Ibarapa, taking the helm as President.
The election took place during a convention held at the Fati Lami Abubakar Institute of Legal and Administrative Studies (FLAILAS) in Minna, Niger State, and the new executives will serve a one-year term.
Joining President Oyewumi are Usman Ibrahim Dende from Federal Polytechnic Idah as Senate President, Akeem Aworinde from Federal Polytechnic Offa as National Director of Sports, Oluwatobi Otititoju from Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti as National Treasurer, and Ishola Usman from Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin as Vice President for Special Duties, among others.
Comrade Ibrahim Mumini, the Convention Chairman, emphasized that the convention was conducted in a peaceful and democratic manner, highlighting NAPS’s commitment to the unity, progress, and welfare of polytechnic students throughout Nigeria.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Festus Oyewumi expressed his determination to work diligently to restore the association’s prestige, emphasizing a focus on fostering peace, unity, and progress among its members.
In a parallel development, Comrade Eshiafune Paul Oghayan (also known as ShopRite) has claimed to be the legitimate National President of the Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS).
During a press briefing at the IBB Pen House in Minna, he stated that after an extensive campaign across the 36 states, a significant majority of the senators cast their votes in his favor, granting him the mandate to lead.
Oghayan pledged to honor this mandate by enhancing the academic and living conditions for students on campus, aspiring to align these improvements with international best practices.
Additionally, Abu Sufiyan Maduko announced his election as the Convention Chairman, receiving 108 votes out of 213 delegates, while Comrade Danjuma Bulus Akolo was declared the Senate President by the 2025 Convention Planning Committee chairman, Sunday Asuku.
