NLC declares nationwide protest over telecom tariff hike.
From Abdulkadir Yahaya, Abuja.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced a nationwide protest in response to the recent hike in telecommunication tariffs.
The protest is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4, 2025, following a National Administrative Council meeting held on Wednesday.
This decision comes in light of the Nigerian Communications Commission’s announcement on January 20, 2025, which approved a 50 percent increase in service tariffs for telecom companies.
This decision has been met with widespread opposition from the Nigerian populace, including strong disapproval from the NLC.
In its efforts to express dissent against the proposed tariff increase, the NLC has pledged to mobilize and organize a nationwide shutdown as part of its campaign against this significant hike in telecom service charges.
