Man Arrested in Enugu for Severing Wife’s Wrist Over Cheating Allegation

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested Sunday Echege, a 33-year-old man, for cutting off his wife’s left wrist with a machete after accusing her of infidelity. The incident occurred on January 26, 2025, at Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in the Ibagwa-Ani community, Nsukka Local Government Area.
According to a statement by SP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Okpuje Division with support from vigilant community members. The machete used in the attack was also recovered.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect confessed to the crime, claiming his actions were driven by suspicions of his wife’s extramarital affairs.
SP Ndukwe further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to expedite a comprehensive investigation and ensure the suspect is prosecuted without delay.
The Commissioner also appealed to couples to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid resorting to violence, emphasizing that criminal acts such as this would not be tolerated.
The victim, Chinonso Echege, is currently receiving medical attention, while the police assure the public that justice will be served.
