27-year-old Woman killed her husband in Niger state because of a domestic dispute.
From Our Correspondent.
A 27-year-old woman named Fatima Dzuma from Lafiyagi Dzwafu village in the Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband, Baba Aliyu, who was 25 years old.
The incident reportedly took place during the preparations for the naming ceremony of Aliyu’s child with his first wife.
Fatima, who had been married to Aliyu for three years as his second wife, confessed to the crime. She stated that the frequent domestic disputes and physical abuse in their marriage led her to commit the act. Sources indicate that Fatima had not borne any children for Aliyu, which contributed to the strain in their relationship.
On the night of the tragic event, the couple had yet another altercation, during which Aliyu allegedly assaulted Fatima before leaving the house. When Aliyu returned and went to bed, Fatima seized the opportunity to act.
She confessed, “I used a scarf to tie his neck, and because he was in a deep sleep, he couldn’t struggle. I struck him three times with a pestle—twice on the head and once on his hand.”
Following the murder, Fatima wrapped her husband’s body in a mat, dragged it to a nearby bush, and returned to clean the crime scene. Initially, she denied knowing Aliyu’s whereabouts when his family began searching for him. However, after three days, she admitted to the murder.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed Fatima’s arrest after Aliyu’s body was discovered in the bush near their home. Police Public Relations Officer SP Abiodun Wasiu stated that Fatima acted alone in this crime.
“She confessed to hitting her husband with a pestle while he was asleep and tying him with clothes and a rope before disposing of the body in a bush,” Wasiu explained.
Fatima remains in police custody as investigations continue. This case highlights the dangers of unresolved domestic conflicts and the devastating consequences they can bring.
