Federal Government Approves New University in Niger State.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted approval for the establishment of Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action in Mokwa, Niger State. This announcement was made in a letter addressed to Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, dated December 2, 2024.
In the letter, the acting Executive Secretary of the NUC, Chris Maiyaki, confirmed that the new university is now recognized as the 65th state university in Nigeria and the 277th in the Nigerian University System.
The letter states: “Consequent upon the receipt of the Niger State Government’s letter dated October 2, 2024, notifying the National Universities Commission (NUC) of the establishment of Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, along with the formal presentation of strategic documents, including the relevant gazetted university law, academic brief, and physical master plan, I am writing on behalf of the NUC to inform His Excellency that, effective December 2, 2024, Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa, Niger State, has been recognized as the 65th state university and the 277th university in the Nigerian University System.
The National Universities Commission pledges its support to the university and encourages His Excellency and the Niger State Government to fully utilize the professional and technical advice that the Commission is statutorily required to provide for the establishment, sustainable funding, and operation of their universities.
A copy of this letter has been sent to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to notify them of the establishment of the university.
I wish to congratulate His Excellency and the good people of Niger State on the establishment of Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, located in Mokwa, Niger State.
