NSHA to redirect Security funds for Procurement of Small Arms. for Vigilante Corps
Niger State House of Assembly has received the Report of the Auditor- General for Local Government on the Audited Accounts of the 25 Local Government Councils of Niger State for Year Ended 31st December, 2021.
The report which was presented at the plenary by the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Mohammed Garba ( Agwara) and was subsequently referred to the House Standing Committee on Public Accounts for further Legislative action.
Similarly, the State Economic and Fiscal Update ( EFU), Fiscal Strategy Paper( FSP) and Budget Policy Statement (BPS), 2024 – 2026,was presented by the Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Mohammed Garba ( Agwara) at today’s plenary and was equally referred to the House Standing Committee on Appropriation for further Legislative action.
In another development, the house also adopted a motion calling on the Executive Arm of Government to Redirect part of the Security Funds of the Local Government for the Procurement of Small Arms for Local Government Areas in the State, Sponsored by Hon. Joseph Haruna S. Duza , Member Representing Munya Constituency at the plenary of the House.
While presenting his motion on the floor of the House, Hon. Duza informed his colleagues that security components deployed to the various Local Government Areas as Vigilante and Hunters are not performing optimally as a result of lack of weapons that will match the fire power of the enemy forces, Kidnappers, Bandits and Terrorists.
He further explained that some Local Government Areas are passive in handling peculiar Security matters probably as a result of inexperience on security issues and do not make provision for the logistics for these Vigilante groups.
At the end of deliberations the House unanimously adopted the prayers of the motion.
In the same vain, the House also received a Motion Calling on the Executive Governor of Niger State to as a Matter of Urgency Strengthen the Security Architecture in Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State to Curb the Menace of Banditry Bedeviling the Local Government Area. Sponsored by Hon. Muhammed Sani Idris, Member Representing Tafa Constituency.
The mover of the Motion informed his colleagues while presenting his motion that for the past few months, bandits have been unleashing mayhem on the of Tafa Local Government Area, maiming, killing and abducting hordes of people from different communities, as at today, bandits have attacked different places within Tafa LGA Nine ( 9) times in the past few months
The House subsequently adopted the prayers of the Motion and Call on the Executive Arm of Government to as a matter of urgency established Military and Hunters Camps around Ijah Gbagyi, Zhibi and Gyedna Communities that share boarders with the FCT and Kaduna State to block the routes of these criminal elements
