Niger State Attorney General tasks State Counsels to abreast best practices.
The Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice for Niger state, Nasir Muazu has called on state counsels/ prosecutors to keep abreast of best practices in handling legal and administrative services in line with government commitment towards providing good governance to the people through protection of lives and property
The Commissioner stated this on Tuesday in Minna while declaring open a two day refresher seminar for state counsels from the ministry of justice.
He said, “I want to advise all the state counsels to keep themselves abreast of best practices both legally and administratively. It is by so doing that you will be able to meet up with the best practices. Everybody should be on board, key in and push up to his or her respective responsibilities “.
He explained that the Ministry has issued warning to all State Counsels to live up to the expectation reposed on them in handling government matters adding that , ” otherwise it is no longer going to be business as usual”.
The Commissioner said that the refresher workshop will provide participants the opportunity to acquire new knowledge on current best practices on civil service procedures in line with government agenda of new Niger state.
According to him, ” the New Niger Agenda is geared towards providing good governance to the people through protection of lives and property. However, this cannot be achieved without the requisite human capital and institutions for implementation of government policies and plans as they relate to the justice sector “.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Maryam I Ahmad said the objective of the workshop is to prepare the participants on the procedures in civil service with particular reference on the place of the ministry of justice in the state Governance.
Mairo disclosed that the In-house training would prepare Directors in the ministry for executing their statutory functions as departmental heads.
”This in-house training is organized to refresh the knowledge and skills of participants in order to make them more competent in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities effectively and to enable them achieve the desired objective”,she added.
