Gov. Bago commends NYSC for fostery unity, promotion of national integration
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger state has commended the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) for its unwavering commitment for fostery unity and promotion of national integration in the country.
He said this during the swearing-in of the 2023 Batch C Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state and those dislodged from FCT for orientation course in Paiko local government area of the state.
Bago who was represented by Alhaji Yahaya Gulbin-Boka, Commissioner for Youth and Sport Development, said through NYSC, the country witnessed breakdown of ethnic and religious barriers as young people different come together to serve the country.
He promised to provide an enabling environment for the corps members for their personal growth and successful execution of community development projects.
He encouraged the corps members to immerse themselves with the local culture, tradition and practices of their host community by listening to their stories and their needs.
In her welcome address, NYSC Coordinator in Niger state, Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka,
said NYSC was designed to prepare corps members for the tasks of the service year.
She advised the corps members to participate in camp activities and choose from any of the Skills Acquisition and Enterpreneuership Development programme areas as white-collar jobs were not readily available.
“Let me remind you that the oath of allegiance is important and is expected to guide your conduct in the service year and have significant influence on your lives,” she said.
Olayinka advised them to distance themselves from drugs, cultism and use of social media to spread fake news, fueling of hatred and other negative purposes.
She enjoined the corps members to rather promote national unity and be security conscious and report suspicious character to appropriate authorities.
Alhaji Abubakar Usman, the Secretary to the Niger state Government, (SSG) and Chairman of NYSC Board, represented by Dr Nuhu Ngaski, Permanent Secretary Ministry for Youth and Sport, urged corps members to uphold the principles of discipline, integrity and national unity NYSC stands for.
The oath of allegiance was administered on 2,203 corps members by the Chief Judge of the state, Halima Ibrahim who was represented by Zainab Aliyu.
