PwSN Extols Governor Sule for approving 5% of State Vacancies for People with Disabilities
People with Special Needs (PwSN) Africa Foundation have applauded Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nassarawa State for approving Five Percentage recruitment for Persons with Disabilities into the State Civil Service.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Founder and Executive Director, People with Special Needs Africa Foundation, Hadiza Ibrahim Attah in Lafia recently.
The statement further disclosed that Governor Sule had established a disability commission in line with the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities Act 2018 and on the 12th of September 2023 proclaimed that Five Percent of public service vacancies in the State should be reserved for PWDs.
Part of the statement reads “The inclusion of PWDs in the civil service is a significant step towards achieving a more diverse and inclusive workforce. It demonstrates that Governor Sule recognizes the tremendous potential and talent that exists within the PWD community.
By providing employment opportunities, this initiative not only promotes inclusivity but also contributes to the overall socio-economic development of the state.
“However, as we celebrate this achievement, we would like to highlight the importance of matching policy commitments with concrete actions and adequate resources.
We, therefore, call on the Nasarawa State Government to increase budgetary allocations and ensure the timely release of funds to the Nasarawa State Disability Commission.
Adequate funding is crucial to enable the commission to effectively carry out its mandate of promoting and protecting the rights of persons with disabilities.
Additionally, we urge Governor Sule to proclaim that public facilities be disability-friendly and expedite the constitution of the governing board of the Nasarawa State Disability Commission.
The appointment of capable and knowledgeable PWDs to this board will ensure the commission’s effective functioning, regulatory oversight, and strategic guidance.
“We express our deepest appreciation to Governor Sule for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to social inclusion.
The implementation of 5% affirmative action on recruitment of PWDs into the state civil service is a testament to his administration’s dedication to breaking barriers and creating an inclusive society for all.
We are hopeful that this milestone will inspire change and encourage other leaders to prioritize the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities.”
Hadiza Ibrahim Attah however, expressed commitment of PwSN to working in close synergy with the Nasarawa State Government and other stakeholders to build a society where diversity is embraced, and the rights of all individuals, including PWDs, are respected and upheld.
It will be recalled that PwSN Africa Foundation is a Nasarawa State-based registered charitable organization working towards ameliorating the plights of people with special needs in the society through empowerment in education, employment, and other economic opportunities.
