Niger CJ Organize workshop for Judiciary Staff on the implementation of Niger State Administration of Criminal justice law,2023.

The Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, has observed that the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 2023 in Niger State will ensure efficient management of criminal justice institutions in the State.

The Chief Judge Halima Ibrahim While delivering speech at a two-day workshop on effective implementation of Niger State Administration of Criminal Justice Law, held at the Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi Conference Centre Minna on Tuesday, said the law is  to ensure speedy dispensation of justice and the protection of the rights and interests of the suspects.

Justice Halima stated that the purpose of the workshop is to serve as an avenue to sensitive and enlightened the participants particularly Magistrates, prosecutors and the staff of Custodial centers towards the effective implementation of the Niger State Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2023.

According to the chief judge, the provision of the law reveal that there is a conscious effort to reduce delays in the criminal justice system,”for instance, sector 228 introduced the remand protocol to curb excessive and prolonged detentions ‘.

She stressed that ‘this will greatly reduce the number of awaiting trials in our custodial centers ,other innovations include the introduction of professional bondsmen,plea bargain, suspended sentence, visitation of the Magistrate to detention centers and the establishment of Administration of Criminal justice law ACJL monitoring teams among others.

She then urge participants to pay rapt attention to the papers to be presented with the hope at the end of the programme a better understanding of the Administration of Criminal justice law,2023.

The Chief Judge further commend the Organizing Committee for carefully choosing the topics for the workshop highliting the innovations provisions of the Niger state Administration of Criminal justice law 2023 and possible implementations to the application of the provision of the Administration of Criminal justice law viz-a-viz the provision of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria [1999] as amended.

Speaking earlier, the Acting Chief Registrar of Niger State High Court, H/W Hassan Mohammed, commended the Chief Judge for organizing the workshop for magistrates and all other critical stakeholders in the administration of justice in the State.

He described the workshop as timely, urge participants to open their minds and hearts to new ideas “as we come together to learn the innovative provisions of the Niger State Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2023 and to share knowledge.

He then implored the participants to pay adequate attention to the resource persons who will deliver various papers and make proper use of the knowledge acquired from the papers.
